I just read a thread on a forum I frequent and the OP basically said that he stopped his car to intervene in an active assault. He ends up getting a window on his car smashed (by the bad guy) and some injuries. Long story short, as a result of changes in court dates (he was asked to testify) he lost time at work as well as a potential new job in addition to the initial cost of getting the window fixed. Original thread here: linkI would be interesting to see your thoughts and reactions to this.

To me, it plainly makes sense.
Tensions are high - anger has entered the equation - the bad guy isn't thinking straight....
As they say 'one foul move'.
Although the actions of these types are typically seen like this, it's a thought that should enter any CS's mind on approaching a situation... "This might not turn out well for me..."
He lost time at work, and money from the window repair, but look at what he gained. An experience of true, courageous citizenry.

Good point there Wish. This particular incident touches upon the issues of training as well as what it takes to be a CS.
Perhaps if the person involved was better trained in some form of self-defense/martial art, he may have subdued the bad guy with less collateral damage (to both himself and his car).
Very true, and as I said, this ties into what it takes to be a CS. Being a CS takes selflessness and a passion for helping those in need. A CS will often find their intervention in helping someone brings much self-sacrifice. For some "An experience of true, courageous citizenry." or "the knowledge of a job well done" isn't enough to justify their sacrifice. That's a true part of being a CS. Not everyone may be prepared to accept those sacrifices. They may have the initial willingness to help and to intervene, but may find themselves unable to cope with the consequences after the fact.

(this absolutely disgusts me but it happens all the time) so i think you have to be really carefull in our backwards society where criminals can sue or press charges against law-abiding people
